Concordia-St. Paul senior defensive end Chris Garrett has been named an East-West Shrine Bowl selection, the organization reported via Twitter. Although the game has been canceled, the East-West Shrine Bowl still announced its standard number of selections to the team rosters. Garrett is the only player selected from NCAA Division II. He joins Zach Moore, a 2013 selection to the East-West Shrine Bowl. Moore was later selected in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, the only player in CSP football history selected in the NFL Draft. He went on to play for five seasons in the NFL including a Super Bowl title as a rookie and most recently had his best season as a professional in 2018 as a member of the Arizona Cardinals, playing in all 16 games including a career-high 3.5 sacks, 4.0 tackles for loss, 5 QB hits and 14 total tackles.

Garrett shares more in common with Moore than the East-West Shrine Bowl invite, as the two defensive ends rank among not only the program's best of all-time at the position, but statistically appear in the NCAA Division II record books, as well. Garrett holds the NCAA Division II football record for most career forced fumbles (15), accomplishing the feat in just 28 games, and his name can be found in the NCAA Division II record books for single game, season and career feats in sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles. When Moore's career came to a close following the 2013 season, he ranked 14th in NCAA Division II history with 33 career sacks (39 games), with Garrett surpassing his career record in 2019 with 36.5 sacks (28 games). - Concordia-St. Paul Football
